Program Description
Today’s international business market requires professionals to have a perspective informed by practical experience and academic intelligence—the combination of skills necessary to managing the complexity and diversity of business in the global arena. The Master of Global Management (MGM) degree delivers a graduate level international business management education that prepares students to develop strong international managerial and entrepreneurial skills and competencies to succeed in business in their home country or abroad. With the opportunity to observe and learn inside and outside one’s culture and the education to work effectively with uncertainty and ambiguity, students gain an intelligent and informed perspective.
Students requiring English language upgrading can qualify for the MGM program through our Pre-Master’s Program (PMP)
Students in the MGM program are given the choice of completing the program in 12 months with the International Industry Analysis Project Option, or completing in 18 months with the Canadian Internship Option. Both options emphasize “experiential learning” – the application of business knowledge. Students will develop a broad range of international business skills while learning to work effectively with individuals from other cultures, regions and ideologies. The face-to-face and real-world project or internship “experiential” learning methodologies used allow students to gain an intelligent and informed perspective.
Options
Both the Internship Option and the Project Option are available to all students; however, to maximize the effectiveness and relevance of the program the ideal internship placement is in a location that is not the student’s home country.
12 Month Option
The International Industry Analysis Project Option focuses on the development of a comprehensive international business plan (IBP) for a new product or service. This capstone project serves to integrate all the content in the program, allowing the learner to comprehend the relationships among the various fields and to appreciate the complexity of the modern global business environment.
18 Month Option
For international students, the Master of Global Management Internship Option begins with a preparatory course focused on understanding the operation and culture of the Canadian workplace, followed by a six-month internship in a Canadian organization. The precise nature of the internship opportunity will depend on the availability and the experience and skills of the student choosing this option. Please see the program schedule for more information.
